Background
Jin Xiangwu lived and worked in Luoyang, Henan province, north-central China, until his arrest on the charge of murder in March 2000. He owned and worked at a video arcade in Luoyang.
In February 2000, Jin Xiangwu lured three boys into his store by offering free games after they owed a fee for playing earlier that week. Jin Xiangwu and his brother, Jin Xiangyu, then stabbed the children to death.
Jin Xiangwu claimed that he killed the boys because they had not paid the fee of 2.5 yuan (30 US cents) for two hours of playing in his video arcade earlier in the week.
The offence
In February 2000, Jin Xiangwu offered free games and lured three boys into his store:

- Xue Yashan, 11
- Du Ruofei, 11
After the children were brought into the store, Jin Xiangwu and his brother killed them.
Details of the killings included that one child was beaten over the head with a steel chain, and the other two were stabbed repeatedly with a knife. Jin Xiangwu and his brother then removed the bodies to a nearby gully and burned them.
After the children had been killed, Jin Xiangwu and his brother cleaned up the scene of the murders and burned the bodies.
Investigation
The brothers were arrested after the boys were reported missing and the bodies were discovered.
Jin and his brother were arrested on March 5, after the boys had been reported missing and the bodies discovered. Jin Xiangwu and Jin Xiangyu were captured and confessed to their crime a few days later.
Trial
Jin Xiangwu was tried by the Intermediate People's Court in Luoyang.
On March 27, Jin Xiangwu was sentenced to death.
The Higher People's Court of Henan Province checked and approved the death penalty and turned down an appeal from Jin Xiangyu.

Jin Xiangyu, his brother, received a sentence of ten years' imprisonment.
