Background
Li Yuhui was a Chinese geomancer and self-styled master of feng shui. He lived in Shantou and was 47 years old.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges early this month and insisted that he had only acted as an assistant to a second feng shui master who performed the ritual.
The offence
Li Yuhui was found guilty of murdering three Hong Kong women and two teenage girls in July.
He was accused of selling deadly cups of cyanide to the women and girls in Hong Kong, claiming it would add years to their lives.
He was also found guilty of stealing $150,000.
Trial
A court in the southern city of Shantou sentenced Li Yuhui to death and confiscated his property.
The court sentenced him to death after finding him guilty of murdering three Hong Kong women and two teenage girls in July, and sentencing included confiscation of his property.
On March 23, 1999, he was sentenced to death for poisoning five Hong Kong women and stealing $150,000.
