David Lee Sanders (DOB 8-8-60) was sentenced to death on June 5, 1987.
The offence
Sanders was sentenced to death for the murders of Jim Brandenburg and Wayne Hatch on January 28, 1987 in Madison County, Kentucky. The murders occurred during a grocery store robbery. Sanders executed both victims by shooting them in the back of the head. Jim Brandenburg died almost instantly, and Wayne Hatch died two days later. Sanders also confessed to the attempted execution of another grocery storekeeper one month earlier. In that attempted execution, the victim survived a gunshot to the back of his head.
