Hiroaki Hidaka (日高 広明; Hidaka Hiroaki; April 1962 – December 25, 2006) was a Japanese serial killer.
Background
Hidaka was originally a top student but failed to enter the University of Tsukuba, his target college. He entered Fukuoka University instead, but eventually dropped out. He often borrowed money, drank, and went to prostitutes.
He moved to Hiroshima in April 1989 and began to work as a taxi driver. He married in 1991 and had a daughter in 1993. His wife entered a mental hospital.
The offence
Hidaka killed four prostitutes between April and September 1996.
One of his victims was a 16-year-old girl who engaged in Enjo kōsai.
Hidaka strangled the first victim in the taxi with his tie. After taking \50,000 in cash, he buried the victim, Rie Miyaji, in Numata-cho, Asaminami-ku, Hiroshima. The first murder occurred in April.
In August and September, Hidaka strangled three other victims in the same way and buried the bodies at various places in Hiroshima. As with Rie Miyaji, he stole from his victims amounts of money varying between \52,000 and \82,000.
Investigation and arrest
Hidaka was arrested on September 21, 1996.
Trial
The Hiroshima District Court sentenced Hidaka to death on February 9, 2000.

On February 9, 2000, the district court in Hiroshima sentenced Hidaka to death.
He then did not appeal.
Outcome
Hidaka was executed by hanging on December 25, 2006.
Other details
Hidaka robbed his victims of amounts totaling 240,000 yen, but he paid 120,000 yen to have sex with them, so he actually robbed them of 120,000 yen.
Hidaka was described as a taxi driver who murdered four women over a five-month period in 1996, and his age at the time was stated as 37.
