Background
Ernesto Cruz Jimenez was a Mexico City police officer who was said to be suffering from depression. His sister said that Ernie had been very depressed and twice had tried to commit suicide. Ernesto Cruz Jimenez was 22 years old.
The offence
Ernesto Cruz Jimenez opened fire with his 9-mm. pistol in a crowded subway car on Thursday, September 21, 1995. He fired 10 rounds on rush hour passengers before being seized by an unarmed subway police officer.
Three passengers died and five others were wounded.
