Case Summary

Background

Remy Lecrenier lived with his girlfriend, Vinciane, and her family in the small village of Bas-Oha, 50 miles from Brussels. Remy was described as a weapons freak and a karate expert.

The offence

On July 7, 1997, Remy Lecrenier was angry over his girlfriend meeting another man, Remy. He killed Vinciane with a crossbow and a Colt-45. He then killed Vinciane’s mother and Vinciane’s two sisters.

The killings occurred at Vinciane’s family home in Bas-Oha.

Vinciane, age 24, was found dead in her bedroom. Vinciane’s two younger sisters, ages 21 and 19, were found in their bedroom. The two younger sisters were found naked, and one of them had been sexually assaulted.

Vinciane’s mother was found in the garage. She was apparently shot after she returned from work.

The father, Philippe Resbouxi, was in Spain at the time of the massacre preparing their upcoming vacation.

Remi left a note on the fridge for the mother saying "You daughter drives me crazy."

Investigation

Police believed Vinciane, age 24, and her two sisters, ages 21 and 19, were probably drugged before the massacre because there were no signs of struggle.

Arrest

After the massacre, the lethal Romeo escaped. Following a four-day southern international manhunt, Remy was arrested at a camping ground close to St. Tropez after being recognized by Belgian tourists.

Sentencing

Remy Lecrenier was sentenced to life in prison on December 7, 1999.
