The offence

Vollenweider had been accused several times and was found guilty within only nine days. He was convicted, in relation to shootings, along with the Chauffeur Hermann Zwyssig, the postman Emil Stoll, and the policeman Alois von Moos.

Trial

The canton court in Obwalden condemned Vollenweider to death on 19 September 1940.

Appeals

Vollenweider’s appeal and petition for pardon were rejected. The death penalty had already been decided to be abolished in Switzerland, and this was disputed.

Outcome

Vollenweider was executed by guillotine on 18 October 1940 in Sarnen, in the workshop of the penal establishment.

Vollenweider rejected his last words. He received a last meal and religious assistance.

Aftermath

In 2003, Swiss documentary film producer Theo pass published a documentary about the case titled "Vollenweider: "Vollenweider - the history of a murderer ".
