Background
Jeffery Ray Williams was sentenced to death on May 16, 1989.
The offence
On September 3, 1988, the bodies of two women were found in a remote area near Coquille. Both women had been dead for two or three days and were nude from the waist down. They were tied together at the wrists and shot in the head from close range with a shotgun.
Investigation
Police found a great deal of physical evidence at the scene, including tire tracks from a small automobile. Investigators eventually determined that the victims were from West Germany.
A week after the bodies were discovered, two witnesses separately came forward to report that Williams had said that he and a man named Jeff Williams had been involved in shooting two women with a sawed-off shotgun.
Arrest
On September 11, 1988, police arrested Williams.
