Background
David Franklin Young was convicted of killing an ex-girlfriend in Illinois during 1983. He was paroled from the state penitentiary in the autumn of 1986.
In Washington, Indiana, Young married Theresa Rasico, five years his senior, at the end of a whirlwind courtship. The two were separated by July 1987.

Young responded to rejection by crushing Rasico's skull during a fight at Loogootee, Indiana.
Young was also said to have confessed to other homicides in California, Idaho and Utah, including two female victims and one man.
