Louis Young was a 47-year-old African American man who was a prison inmate. He served as a penitentiary trustee and worked as a personal handyman at the prison warden's home, which was near the victim's house.

Louis Young was executed for the November 19, 1945, slaying of young mother Eloise Kennedy.

Kennedy lived nearby. She purportedly refused the trustee’s sexual overture.

Kennedy was found in her apartment with her slacks ripped and with eleven stab wounds to her body.

A bloody butcher knife from Police Chief Frank Young’s residence was found.

Investigation

Authorities visited Young's cell late at night and he confessed to the crime. He soon recanted and said the confession was forced.
