Nazir Ahmad

Nazir Ahmad, a 40-year-old Pakistani man, killed his three daughters and his stepdaughter while they were sleeping in their home in Gago Mandi, near Burewala in Punjab province. The victims included his stepdaughter Muqadas Bibi, 25, who had married a man against his wishes, and his other daughters Bano Bibi, Sumera, and Humera, aged 12, 10, and 6 respectively, though reports vary on their ages. Ahmad was upset that Muqadas had married of her own choice and believed her actions tarnished the family’s honor. He bought a butcher's knife and a machete after midday prayers on Friday and hid them in his house. He slaughtered Muqadas first with a machete, then killed the other three daughters, because he thought they would follow her example. His wife, Rehmat Bibi, witnessed the murders as she cradled their 3-month-old son and recounted how she begged him to spare her daughters. Ahmad told police he was "an honorable father" and that he slaughtered his daughters to protect his family’s honor, expressing a desire to eliminate her alleged lover and set his home on fire. He was arrested the next day. The incident was reported as an honor killing, though the victims had married with apparent consent, and the motive was linked to his belief that they would engage in similar behavior. The case drew attention to violence against women in Pakistan and the cultural context of honor killings.
