Background
Eugene Leo Gambetta was a native of Soledad, California. He was 46 years old when he was executed.
Gambetta blamed the murder on his sister-in-law Lola La Pointe, whom he believed was keeping his ex-wife Thelma Ribail from him.
Gambetta claimed that his sister-in-law kept his ex-wife dependent on her by plying her with narcotics and that Gambetta also claimed by prostitution.
The offence
Gambetta kidnapped his ex-wife Thelma Ribail at gun point in Reno on July 26, 1948.
When Thelma Ribail tried to escape, Gambetta shot her and put her body in the trunk of his automobile.
Gambetta drove on to San Francisco after the killing.
