Background
Eugene H. James was convicted of stabbing several Baltimore woman in unprovoked attacks. He had served seven and a half years in prison when he was released in December 1947 on “Christmas parole.”
The offence
After his release on “Christmas parole,” James committed further attacks.
On June 15, 1948, in Baltimore, James raped and robbed a housewife. The housewife was left alive and otherwise uninjured.
Twelve days later, in Washington, D.C., James ambushed 11-year-old Carol Bardwell in a city park. He dragged the girl off her bicycle and stabbed her to death.
On July 6, James repeated the tactic in Baltimore, killing another 11-year-old, Marsha Brill.
Investigation
James was arrested in the latter case.
