Case Summary
Background
Alexei Petrichev was a 22-year-old unemployed Russian ex-convict.
The offence
On February 21, 1997, Alexei went on a killing spree stabbing three neighbors to death and wounding two others.
He first killed a male neighbor by stabbing him 20 times with a dagger at an apartment building in southern Moscow. He then broke into another apartment, killed a 20-year-old woman, and injured her 1-year-old son. He stabbed to death the woman's father and wounded her brother-in-law.
Investigation
When police arrived at the scene, they shot the killer in the stomach and the leg. According to police, his wounds were not life threatening.
