Background
Julian Kennedy was a drifter and an escaped convict. He was linked with Southern “outlaw” motorcycle gangs.
The offence
Kennedy confessed to multiple murders. According to his statement, he committed his first murder in Tampa when he was 15, helping other bikers beat a man to death as part of an initiation ceremony. He also stated that another male victim was strangled, wrapped in plastic bags, and left on the front seat of a car parked outside the Tampa police station.
Kennedy confessed to killing a serviceman from McCoy Air Force Base in Orlando during a quarrel with him. He also stated that another victim died in an argument over a game of pool. In Hillsborough County, he reportedly strangled a woman in a dispute over drugs.
While drifting across the continent, he confessed to holdup murders in the states of Arkansas, New Mexico, and Texas. He later abducted motorist Elva Jones in Valdosta, Georgia, and took her life in the course of a September 1972 jailbreak.
