Background
Duilio Pessoto (56) was a Brazilian farmer who apparently lived alone and was single.
Locals said that Pessoto was angry because somebody had made a joke suggesting that he was gay.
The offence
Pessoto went on a killing rampage in Jundiai, São Paulo state, shooting and killing multiple people.
He walked into a restaurant in Jundiai and without saying a word opened fire on customers and staff. He fired 20 rounds, leaving three dead.
Pessoto then walked into a nearby shop, where he killed another person, before firing a bullet into his own head.
Investigation
In Jundiai, locals said Pessoto was angered by a friendly joke about his sexuality.
Other details
Pessoto left his rural home by car on March 1 armed with two revolvers.
He shot his first victim on a nearby road as the man drove by and killed two more men at a bar, Globo television reported.
He then drove further down the road, pulled the car over and shot his fourth victim and himself on the street.
The killing was reported as involving a cousin among the victims.
