Background
Steven Brian Alvarado was a juvenile aged 17 at the time of the crimes.

Other details
A year or so before the murder, Alvarado had been in the hospital and discharged after twelve days because he was considered a danger to others and not suffering from a treatable mental illness. The psychologist’s reports indicated that Alvarado had no concern for the rights of others, admitted to selling illegal weapons, abusing and selling illegal drugs, sexually assaulting a woman, mutilating human infants in Satanic rituals, and committing numerous other crimes. His future dangerousness was supported by these factors.
Outcome
Alvarado’s death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment on June 22, 2005.
