Background
Larry C. Williams and the other men drank beer, smoked pot, and watched TV for awhile before deciding to rob Hubbard. Williams was 21 years old at the time of the murder.
The case record described Williams as living in poverty, with his younger brothers also in trouble with the law. The record said Williams had been abandoned by his father at age 11 and that he had been stealing, dealing drugs all his life.
The offence
The men decided to rob Hubbard. Perkins hit Hubbard on the head with his pistol. Williams stabbed Hubbard several times in the chest with a butcher knife. The men then hit Hubbard with a whiskey bottle and a piece of pipe.
After the attack, the men attempted to wipe off their fingerprints. They took Hubbard's billfold. They then went to Williams' mother's house to split the money.

The State's star witness was Perkins. Perkins had entered into a plea agreement with the State involving this murder and two others.
