Committed suicide the same day On December 18, 1996, Marcelo Kenji Yoshino, 22, an employee of the Sao Paulo State Sanitation Company, entered the offices where he formally worked with a Glock 9 mm pistol hidden in a gift package.
Background
Marcelo Kenji Yoshino was 22 and was an employee of the Sao Paulo State Sanitation Company. He had previously worked in the same offices he entered on the day of the attack.
Six months before the incident, Yoshino was transferred to another unit of the company because of his stalking and harassment of Valeria Lellis. During that period, he was also sent to a psychologist, but he continued frequenting his former office to visit her. The victim rebuffed him.
The offence
On December 18, 1996, Yoshino entered the offices where he formally worked with a Glock 9 mm pistol hidden in a gift package. Once inside, he looked for Valeria Lellis, described as the object of his obsessive and unrequited passion, and opened fire.
He killed three women and wounded two men. After the incident described as a rampage, he shot himself in the head.
The account also describes that on the “fateful payback day,” Yoshino hunted down Valeria and fired at ten coworkers, killing her, their supervisor, and another woman, and wounding two men. After the rampage, he shot himself in the head.
