Died in custody
Committed suicide the same day when confronted by the police; after being ejected from a party for being drunk, he shot his parents, killing one and wounding his mother, then returned to the party and killed 4 more before turning the gun on himself when the police arrived.
Background
Felix Zehetner was out one night enjoying himself at a friend’s barbecue in Vienna. He had been ejected from the party for being drunk.
After leaving the party, Zehetner felt angry at everyone following arguments.
The offence
On the way home, Zehetner went home and shot his parents. He killed his father and wounded his mother.
Zehetner then went back to the barbecue. He entered without saying a word, raised his gun, and started shooting at people he felt had wronged him earlier in the night.
Zehetner’s main target was the host who had earlier told him to “fuck off home”; the host was first to die.
He then got the host’s sister, and Zehetner punctured her lung, allowing her to survive.
Before the spree was over, three more people had fallen dead, and many more were injured.
Investigation
When the police arrived, they came “all guns blazing”. Zehetner was able to get two of the officers, seriously injuring both.
Zehetner then turned the gun on himself and died.
Outcome
Zehetner committed suicide the same day when confronted by the police.
Other details
Zehetner used a Smith & Wesson pistol. He loaded the gun before going to say good night to his parents. After turning the gun on himself when the police arrived, he made a pattern on the ceiling.
