The offence
Jones was involved in a rent dispute with his tenants at the home he owned in Sun Valley, Inglewood. The landlord ordered the tenants to move out. When Rambert and Khan refused and told Jones he would have to evict them, Jones let himself into the house and blasted Rambert and Khan with a 12-gauge shotgun as they slept.
Investigation
Defense attorneys tried to show Jones was mentally ill. The tactic could have spared him from the death penalty, but Jones would not cooperate with his attorneys.
