Overview
Hendrik Jut (July 19, 1851 – June 12, 1878) was a murderer from The Hague. He killed two people and gained notoriety comparable to Lizzie Borden in the United States or William Palmer in Britain. He became part of Dutch folk culture.
A carnival strength tester called the "Kop van Jut" (Head of Jut) was said to be named after him. In the test, a participant hits a block with a large mallet, causing a bell to be rung if the blow was powerful enough.
Other details
His head was kept in a jar and was long on display in an anatomical museum attached to Groningen University. The head was apparently discarded after the bottle started leaking. A cast of his head still existed.
