The offence

Carl Everson, 41, was found dead at a house in Sugden Way, Barking, east London, on the morning of Sunday, October 17, 2010.

He suffered stab wounds to his neck and had been stamped on so hard a shoe imprint was left on his shoulder.

Prosecutors alleged that Van Dungey and Kelly Gentry attacked Mr Everson after inviting him to Van Dungey’s birthday party.

Jurors were told that both women left footprints in the victim’s blood all over the floor.

The Old Bailey heard that Mr Everson had battled a drink problem but was “living the life of an alcoholic” at the time of his death.

Carl Everson (victim) Carl Everson was 41. His body was found at an address in Sugden Way, Barking. He had been stabbed twice through the left side of his neck, stamped upon, and beaten to the head.

Investigation

Police were called just before 11.30 hours on Sunday, October 17, 2010, to reports of a man dead at an address in Sugden Way, Barking.

When police and the Ambulance Service arrived, they found the body of Mr Everson, from East Ham. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination held on Tuesday, October 19, at East Ham mortuary gave cause of death as stab wounds to the neck.

The court heard that there was evidence of significant bleeding within the premises.

The court heard that the footwear of the defendants left footprints in his blood and, in the case of one of them, on his body.

Trial

Van Dungey and Gentry both denied murder.

At the Old Bailey, Van Dungey was convicted of murder.

On Wednesday 13 July 2011, 43-year-old Tracey Antoinette Van Dungey of Sugden Way, Barking, was found guilty of killing Carl Everson on 17 October 2010.

During a phone call after the killing, the women were found sitting on a patch of grass with their dogs, chatting to each other and speaking to a friend on the phone. The prosecutor said they had been laughing and joking and even talking about “Eastenders.”

Prosecutor Duncan Penny said:

“During that call they had been laughing and joking. They had even been talking about Eastenders,” said prosecutor Duncan Penny, who added: “His part in this plotline had very much come to an end.”

Prosecutor Duncan Penny said:

“There they found the body of Carl Everson lying on the lounge floor. “He had been savagely killed, stabbed twice through the left side of his neck, stamped upon and beaten to the head and the body. “There was evidence of significant bleeding within the premises. “The footwear of the defendants had left footprints in his blood and in the case of one of them on his body.”

The trial continued for Gentry after Van Dungey’s conviction.

Sentencing

On July 12, Van Dungey was convicted of murder and was jailed for life with a minimum of 19 years before she could become eligible for parole.

The sentencing was described as occurring with a deadline for parole eligibility set by the minimum term.

Gentry was cleared of murder but convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent. She was later jailed for 11 years.
