The offence

John Hall was convicted of murdering John C. O'Brien on June 15, 1931.

Hall and O'Brien were in the bootlegging business in Clark County in southern Nevada. Hall believed O'Brien had been stealing from him. Hall and O'Brien’s families were driving in a car belonging to the O'Brien family. Without warning, Hall shot O'Brien five times in the back, killing him. Hall also severely beat Mrs. O'Brien with his revolver.
