Richardson’s violent conduct included an August 14 incident in Prince George's County, Maryland, followed by a later rampage after another escape.

Richardson broke out three times between February and September 1987. On August 14, 1987, during the robbery of a motel in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Richardson shot and wounded three persons. He killed another victim two days later. He returned to Oak Hill as an escapee and broke out again on September 27, 1987.
On October 7, 1987, Richardson shot and killed 32-year-old Michael Goodwin, a Washington motorist. He then moved on to Prince George’s County and committed another murder the same day.
Maryland authorities held Richardson without bond on October 16, 1987. He was indicted on three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of assault with intent to kill in connection with the August 14 robbery.
